The Bank of England Museum, Bartholomew Lane, (off Threadneedle Street) London EC2 was opened by HM The Queen in November 1988. The museum traces the history of the Bank of England from its foundation in 1694. Visit a reconstruction of the late 18th century Bank Stock Office, with a display on the architectural history of the Bank. See early Goldsmith's notes and receipts for coin the forerunners of present day banknotes and today's banknotes in the Banknote Gallery. The museum has a great collection of silver on display, some of the pieces dating from the year of the Bank of England's foundation. There is a cinema and video displays to help boost your knowledge (and test it) about money and banking. See a pyramid of gold bars and get hands on with a real gold bar, lift it and feel the weight.
