City of London district of London

St Paul's

The site of the original Roman settlement, St Paul's Cathedral and present day financial centre with reminders of the bombing of World War Two.

The Christchurch Greyfriars Garden opposite The (New) London Stock Exchange building covers the original burial grounds on the site of the former nave of Christchurch Greyfriars, which was aquired by the Corporation of London in 1931.

The Rose garden was laid out in 1989 and is designed to match the floor plan of the former church, designed by Sir Christopher Wren. The central paved 'aisle' is flanked on both sides by box-hedged rose beds which represent the original position of the pews.

The structures which support climbing roses and clematis are copies of the wooden surrounds which decorated the original stone pillars.
