William Thomas Stead - Born 5 July 1849 at Embleton, Northumberland, England - Died 15 April 1912, aged 62 aboard RMS Titanic when it sank in the Atlantic Ocean.

The W T Stead Memorial to a journalist of wide renown was erected near the spot where he worked for more than 30 years by journalists of many lands in recognition of his brilliant gifts, fervent spirit and untiring devotion to the service of his fellow men.

The Chartered Institute of Journalists erected the memorial after W T Stead's death on board the ill fated Titanic.

Sunday, 15th April 2012 - A wreath laying. This will also be attended by descendants of Mr Stead, and by many other admirers of his work. The ceremony takes place at 10am, Sunday, April 15, 2012, and will be followed by a church service at St Bride's (the Journalists' Church) in Fleet Street, at 11am.
